With police officers around the country on heighted alert following the shootings of 11 police officers in Dallas, three people have been arrested in an alleged plot to harm police in Baton Rouge LA, with one more suspect being pursued.
The men were arrested in connection to a burglary over the weekend at a pawn shop where several handguns were stolen. It was reported that one airsoft BB gun and eight handguns were taken. Two of the eight stolen guns remain at large. The first suspect arrested told authorities they were taken to cause harm to police, although no specific details of a plot were given. At this time the suspects are being charged with burglary, simple burglary, and theft of a firearm, no charges of a plot to harm law enforcement officials have been filed.
Police around the country have received criticism for their show of force, sending riot police and military like vehicles to contain protests since the death of two black men by police in Baton Rouge and Minnesota. However, with the death of five Dallas police officers and other departments reporting injured to harm officers due to protesters throwing rock and debris, government officials have defended the tactics. With the number of substantial and credible threats being received around the country toward police, it has become necessary for our law enforcement to have the ability to defend themselves through the very tactics being questioned.
